Course details:

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."
Pablo Picasso

Give yourself permission to spend 6 weeks finding the natural artist in you. This course is designed to be taken from home, in segments of time that suit you and your busy lifestyle.

The activities and techniques throughout this course are aimed at recovery for the ‘stuck’ or blocked artist, as well as ‘discovering’ the artist in you for those new to art practice and regular creativity.

The methods are experimental and innovative, as years of teaching and being a practicing artist has taught me there are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ ways to draw, paint and create, only interesting and expressive ways to use artistic media – the pleasure is in the play, not the ability to render something you see technically correct!

On this course you will have 6 ‘key’ art methods to explore each week with corresponding assignments. These can be explored in ways you find comfortable and enjoyable whilst being experimental along the way. No teacher or student looking over your shoulder to ‘see how good you are’, instead you work in the privacy of your own space and only share images/work you feel comfortable with, in our communal, but private, on-line space. Then discuss, be inspired, and share feedback in an informal and fun way, when you are ready.

The methods and assignments will cover:

• wild sketchbook experiments
• experimental drawing
• painting-without-a-brush techniques
• mixed-media collage
• experimental photograph taking
• and an introduction to contemporary art practice and thinking

trying a bit of each before you decide which you would like to explore further and take to the next level.

I am a qualified tutor that has taught in schools, museums, galleries and on other community projects, to learn more please view my CV. I love teaching and being in a role that encourages others to use art to rediscover the natural artist and thinker in them (it was the best thing I ever did!). Solving an artistic problem often supports the resolution of other issues and challenges in life as it sets your mind free to move beyond ‘pass’ ‘fail’, ‘yes’ ‘no’, and ‘right’ ‘wrong’ thinking, so easily found in today’s living and being.

You will be provided with:

• on-line assignments each week
• art pdf, book, and web resources
• a group space to upload completed work (and share and chat!)
• individual feedback from me
• an introduction to different artists
• art inspiration, ideas and techniques

And you will need:

• access to a computer and digital camera, scanner (optional), and an email address
• a google and flickr account
• art materials - many materials you will already have at home, and there’s a big focus on being eco: see Frequently Asked Questions.

The course costs £60 ($90 US dollars - based on current exchange rates). Places are limited to ensure individual attention.
